Perilous Waif by E. William Brown5/10/2023 Cal isn't the only character, but he's certainly entertaining. If old school RPGs are GM vs players, then this is an old school RPG made fiction. Or more precisely, a dungeon heart - a magical gem that controls the dungeon, gains levels and knowledge by killing adventurers tempting them to return for more risks by dropping treasures. This book is from the fantasy genre of "What if the fantasy world worked like an RPG or video game?" What makes this interesting is one of the main characters. In the magazine they mentioned a fellow alumni who'd self published a couple of books. I got an alumni magazine from the University of North Dakota. I'm not sure how useful it'll be as inspiration for an RPG but it's a very fun read. Things get crazier from there.Ī good sense of humor and a good read for science fiction readers. (Mostly so they can confiscate all those trust fund assets.) He's been sold to a company that needs a human template for a computer AI to run long distance space exploration ships. He finds out that a hundred years ago or so, the government declared frozen heads to be non persons. Of course, the next day he steps in front of a car. So he signs up for one of those companies that freezes your head. But this one was very entertaining.īob just sold his tech start up for stupid money. We are Legion (We are Bob), by Dennis TaylorĪ random selection of the recommended titles on Amazon. That's something I find enjoyable to read. How about covering two books? Both these books do something unique, story-wise.
